How can I become involved with and support the Convention?
Outside of attending the NDSC National Convention, there are various ways to contribute to the event. The convention needs to fill almost 700 volunteer slots so an investment of your time would be greatly appreciated. You can also support the convention through Sponsorship, Exhibiting, and Souvenir Journal Messaging.
- Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are an essential part of the convention and directly contribute to the event’s overall success.
Volunteers are needed for a wide range of activities, with time slots available across the convention weekend. More than 500 volunteers will join more than 3,300 attendees from around the world at this year’s convention!

Youth & Adults Conference
In order to provide the best experience for over 300 self-advocates (youth & adults ages 15 and older with Down syndrome), we need extensive support over the three days from volunteers age 18 and older. Though it is not a requirement to commit to all three days, the consistency and familiarity created by having the same volunteers providing support throughout the conference is ideal. No previous experience is necessary – just flexibility, the desire to interact directly with self-advocates and willingness to have fun.

There are five sessions of Kids’ Camp over the weekend each serving 150 children ages 6 months – 14 years. Volunteers ensure the safety of all campers and provide support in various activities in a structured setting. Activities will include crafts, physical movement, short games, entertainment groups, etc. The majority of campers will be children with Down syndrome.

Other volunteer opportunities
Throughout the weekend general convention volunteer opportunities include registration, session hosts, venue guides and floaters (those willing to do anything as needed). We also need bilingual (Spanish-speaking) volunteers to work in a variety of roles. We ask that volunteers are age 18 or older for all areas. For an overview of all our volunteer opportunities review our volunteer descriptions below.
